Australian National Team of Synchronized Swimmers to Use Nightwish for Olympic Routine
Two things the popularity of which I will never understand: Nightwish and synchronized swimming.
So I guess this kinda makes sense.
From a Nuclear Blast press release:
“The legendary symphonic metal combo Nightwish is everywhere – even in sports! The Australian national team of synchronized swimmers announced that they will be using the classical hymn ‘Last Ride Of The Day’ off Nightwish’s 2012 album Imaginaerum for their routine at the Olympic championships! An orchestral version of the song will be used during the teams performance in Rio de Janeiro. The band feels very honored and wishes good luck to the entire team!”
Having now made myself listen to roughly one-third of the song (which is as much as I was able to stomach), I can say with confidence that it is totally appropriate for this event. Why? Well, in case you haven’t heard, read this report from ESPN:
“The waters where Olympians will compete in swimming and boating events next summer in South America’s first Games are rife with human sewage and present a serious health risk for athletes, as well as for visitors to the iconic beaches of Rio de Janeiro.”
An excrementitious sport set to excrementitious music in a body of water full of excrement? Seems about right to me!
