Barishi Spit Upon the “Grave of the Creator”
Last year, I wrote an Unsigned & Unholy piece about a band from Vermont called Barishi, whose EP Endless Howl quickly became one of my favorite records of last year. Their sound, a powerful and melancholy form of grinding metal similar to that of Mantar, really struck a chord with me.
Thankfully, though Barishi have remained unholy, they are no longer unsigned! The band was picked up by Season of Mist, who are putting out the band’s new album Blood from the Lion’s Mouth this year. You can hear the first single, “Grave of the Creator”, below, and you should, because it rules. It’s not quite as erratic as some of the stuff on Endless Howl was, but it’s got a steady, driving rage to it that flows like light over a bed of embers and will surely make you ignore the fact that the guy on the album cover looks like he’s about to make sex fingers.
Listen below. Blood from the Lion’s Mouth drops September 16th via Seasons of Mist. You can pre-order it here.
