South Wales Police Officers in Ian Watkins Case Face Disciplinary Action, Had Intelligence Suggesting Watkins’ Guilt Since 2008

In case you forgot somehow, Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins was sentenced to 35 years in prison back in 2013 for a litany of unspeakable child sex crimes. When news of Watkins’ guilt came forward, everyone was shocked and horrified… except three South Wales police officers, who apparently had intelligence and reports against Watkins as far back as 2008 and didn’t do anything about them.

The BBC reports that a detective sergeant and two detective constables not only didn’t fully investigate reports against Watkins made back in 2008, but that the detective sergeant also made a concerted effort to discredit a main witness by suggesting her claims were unfounded. That sergeant apparently did the same thing during a different case, when a 15-year-old girl claimed to have been raped.

All of which is disgusting. That Watkins had an extra four years plus to go on committing sex crimes against children while these policemen watched his back (or just didn’t go after him) is unconscionable, but that there was a trend of discrediting sex offenders on the part of this detective sergeant is downright hideous. Hopefully the “disciplinary action” taken against them won’t be a paid suspension. Hopefully, these guys will have their lives destroyed.
