Video: Angry Older Rocker Tries to Rule Deathcore Pit, Gets Kicked in the Face

Nothing’s worse than someone standing front and center at a metal show who doesn’t understand how metal shows work. I remember a woman at Wacken who got increasingly angry at crowd surfers, until she started yanking shoes off of any of them that passed her and throwing them across the crowd. After a while, her friends dragged her out of the pit area, aware of what she’d forgotten: there’s a way to do this, and if you don’t like it, leave.

I bring this up because of a video recently posted to RockFeed by our own Brian Storm of a guy who looks too old to be at a deathcore show (Storm describes him as an “80’s rocker”, presumably because of the vest and hair) acting like an ass in the pit and then getting knocked the fuck out with a pretty clinical kick to the face. To be fair, this dude certainly looks like he was asking for it. He stands front and center during the entire set and then takes a swing at a dude who passes him, all with a really, really angry look on his face. Does he think that the other moshers were attacking him? Did he not realize that up front at a metal show is where the moshing usually occurs?

Troy Greene, frontman of Mississippi deathcore band VÆN who are playing in the video, made the following comment:

“He stood in the way of the band for every band and was hitting people and grabbing them, not fully understanding the concept of hardcore dancing. A few people kinda gave him warning bumps and knocked him around. We all spoke to him warning of the dangers of standing in the middle of the pit trying to hit ppl, the staff warned him, bands, and the venue owner.

“I do not condone crowd killing or targeting ppl in the pit. But what would you say in the situation.. Did he have it coming and deserved it? Or should everyone stop throwing down as to not cause this random old man no harm for the entire 6 band set while he stood outright in front of the bands?”

Greene is right that crowdkilling is some dumbass shit, and he’s smart not to pass any blanket judgments on this dude. But at the end of the day, if you’re going to get in the pit, don’t act like an ass, and if you do act like an ass don’t be surprised if you get kicked.
