Forty Winters Teach You How to Deal with “Summoning Spirits”

Florida’s own Forty Winters are back and angrier than ever with their sophomore release, Rotting Empire. Their new lyric video for the track “Summoning Spirits” is bound to attract fans of hardcore/metalcore; it’s certainly a ferocious experiment in tremolo picking down-tuned open strings, anyway.

I do really like the artwork in the video, though. There’s something oddly charming about a rotting dude with a worm’s mouth for a third eye flailing his face around to chugs happening in the background. It’s cute in a horror movie kind of way — like a Gremlin that got sprayed with water — and makes the whole video entertaining. Hopefully, we’ll get to see pictures of someone cosplaying as this dude someday soon. Y’know, like the guy or girl that dressed up as a Weedian at a Sleep show recently.
