Watch Intronaut Play Off the Bridge Live with “Sul Ponticello”

0

Sul Ponticello is a term used to describe a specific playstyle of stringed instrument. Literally translated it means “on the bridge.” The effect comes from playing extremely close to a guitar’s bridge without ample pressure and creates a tone that is eerie and metallic. Seems like Intronaut decided to give us all a crash course in that concept with this seven-minute progressive track named after it.

The video is part of Mesa/Boogie’s “Tone Sessions” series and is an entirely instrumental look at the track. If nothing else, it gives everyone an opportunity to appreciate the technicality behind the music. Even without the vocals this song manages to be both beautiful and haunting. If you’ve never seen Intronaut live then you haven’t had a chance to witness how truly mesmerizing their music can be, and this video offers a glimpse into their layered performance. Personally I really enjoy drooling over syncopated guitar riffs, polyrhythmic interludes, and effect laden refrains that drone on and on and on and… you get the point.

Anyways, there’s a lot to enjoy here if you’re an Intronaut fan. And if you’re not? Well, I’d assume there’s a lot to hate. Regardless you can check out the video below and chime in with your thoughts. You can find “Sul Ponticello” on Intronaut’s latest album The Direction of Last things which is available now.
