Kvelertak Get Kvelertarkovskian in “Nattesferd” Video

There’s a lot to recommend Kvelertak’s new video for “Nattesferd” — it’s beautifully shot, the special effects are great, a narrative that viewers will actually be able to follow, and some strikingly alien landscapes.

Of course, the landscapes are not actually alien: according to a press release…

“The video was filmed in Fårö, a Baltic Sea island off the south eastern coast of Sweden where Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman lived / died and made several films, among them Through a Glass Darkly (1961), Persona (1966), Hour of the Wolf (1968), Shame (1968), The Passion of Anna (1969), and Scenes from a Marriage (1972).”

The clip’s director, Jakob Marky, also notes that Andrei Tarkovsky attempted to film some of what ended up being his last movie ever, The Sacrifice, at Fårö, but was denied a permit. Marky was able to avoid Tarkovsky’s fate because he recently won the “After Bergman” prize, an annual scholarship awarded to a filmmaker of merit. Based on this video, I’d say the selection committee chose wisely.

Watch the clip for “Nattesferd” below. The song is the title track from Kvelertak’s most recent release, which is out now on Roadrunner.
