Gone Is Gone Go Full 30 Seconds to Mars on “Stolen From Me”
So far, I’ve actually really enjoyed the songs I’ve heard from Gone Is Gone, the supergroup featuring members of Mastodon, QOTSA, and At The Drive-In. I thought “Violescent” kept the energy up and “Starlight” had a spooky ethereal vibe to it. The band was winning me over.
But I can’t say the same about their new track, “Stolen From Me,” which debuted today on Beats 1 Radio. It just leans a little too hard in the direction of mainstream radio rock, with all the stuff I dislike about the Deftones thrown in. And as much as I love and respect Troy Sanders, I’m not sure his vocal is right for that kind of sound. I don’t know, maybe I’m being more metal than thou or whatever, but I keep waiting for a kick that never happens in this one.
Anyway, what do I know, listen to “Stolen Frome Me” and judge for yourself. Gone Is Gone’s self-titled EP comes out July 8th on Rise. Pre-order it here.
