Fiend Without a Face (feat. Mastodon’s Brent Hinds) Announce Spring Tour

Fiend Without a Face are easily my favorite of all the Mastodon side projects, of which there are now a whole buttload: Killer be Killed, Gone is Gone, Giraffe Tongue Orchestra (although we’ve yet to hear a song), West End Motel… did I miss any?

They’re also perhaps the farthest from metal, existing somewhere in the nether region between rockabilly, surf rock and punk, although they’ve managed to carve out time for touring pretty consistently — if sporadically — over the years. I caught the band at Brooklyn’s Union Pool several years back, and HOT DAMN, I was transfixed by Hinds running through those chicken-pickin’ licks all fucking night long. The Shriner masks and shtick also add to the appeal: it’s a fun time!

Those in the southern U.S. will have a chance to catch Fiend Without a Face live this June. Why this tour, why now? We’re not sure — could just be the timing finally worked out for everyone involved — but don’t ask questions, just go! It’s rare you’ll get to see a talent like Hinds in such a cozy environment, and you’ll have a blast, I promise. Death Before Breakfast will open about half the dates.
