Belphegor Cancel Russian Shows, Comment on Harassment at Airport

Last week, Belphegor ran into a spot of trouble when frontman was spit on by a Christian fundamentalist while at Pulkovo Airport in Saint Petersburg, Russia. While not entirely surprising, given how metal un-friendly Russia has been as of late, the incident was still, to put it mildly, distressing.

Unfortunately, the country wasn’t any kinder to Belphegor as their trip progressed:

This obviously sucks for Belphegor, and sucks BIG TIME for Russian Belphegor fans. But, as is so often the case, there is a silver lining: the idiots who give “dangerous” rock bands a hard time have, historically, done little besides promote those bands to rebellious adolescents; those teenagers, consequently, become fans. So in the long-term, Belphegor — and metal — win.
