Maynard’s Biography Due Later This Year, Sounds Like a Whimsical YA Novel
We’re pretty poised and ready to jump on any suggestion of a new Tool album here at the Mansion, so when we saw Maynard in the news this morning we hoped it would be a new nugget of information for us to dissect (‘Maynard Overheard Saying Word Album At Record Store!’).
The bad news is, this morning’s announcement isn’t about the new Tool record. The good news is, Maynard’s biography is apparently due out this year, giving Tool fans something new to worship, even if that isn’t a new album.
The book is called A Perfect Union of Contrary Things, which sounds like either a book for middle schoolers about super-powered youngsters in dreary houses or a teen book about someone dying of a disease. It was cowritten with Maynard’s longtime associate Sarah Jensen and will feature both stories about the singer’s life and segments he’s written himself.
The book’s publishers, Backbeat, released the following statement:
“Until now, Maynard’s fans have had access to only an abridged version of his story. A Perfect Union Of Contrary Things presents the outtakes, the scenes of disappointment and triumph, and the events that led him to take one step after the next.
“Maynard’s story is a metaphor for the reader’s own evolution and an encouragement to follow one’s dreams, hold fast to individual integrity, and work ceaselessly to fulfill our creative potential.”
Will it teach me the power of friendship too? I’m just interested in reading stories about Tool and the weird shit that comes out of this dude’s brain. But hey, whatever works.
Anyway, Maynard’s book is out November 8th, and you can pre-order Maynard’s book here. If you just can’t wait until then, or you’re an insufferable retard and can’t read, here’s 28 minutes of his stage banter. It might not be as inspiring, but it should do the trick.
