Sh*t That Comes Out Today: March 18, 2016
Hello MetalSucks reader! Welcome to Shit That Comes Out Today, your Satanic bible of this week’s heavy new releases. We list ‘em, we spotlight ‘em, we link you to their preview jams and full streams — and we usually stick ‘em in a fancy Spotify playlist too (below) — all for your jammage! Now crank this shit up.
·
Nadja
Sv (Essence)
On a playlist with: space-grade Inter Arma, Spectral Lore + Rammstein
Listen Sv full stream (here)
If you have a saucy 41 minutes to spare, you might as well spare it on Sv. Chill with the let’s-do-one-long-song trope, Nadja puts forth the necessary ambient and psychedelic vibes, but with industrial aesthetics. And how! It’s the industrial-ness and frisson-inspiring structure of Sv which makes it a winner. Not a wiener, but a winner. Also you can’t pause the damn thing (why would you).
·
Decrepit Soul
The Coming Of War!! (Iron Bonehead)
On a playlist with: asterisk, italics, umlauts
Listen “Storm Of Steel” (here)
Omg, they actually used two exclamation marks. So much metal. So much horn, right? And it sets the soundstage , it’s not… music! It’s music!! The dials do go to 20 (or so), and for The Coming Of War!! they were twisted clockwise purple-nurple style!! Is it bone raw beast thrash? Yes of course, and a bit more: a lot of good fun. And when you’re having fun, don’t you tend to use so many more exclamation marks?
·
Vredehammer
Violator (Indie)
On a playlist with: Cattle Decapitation, Aborted, a much more violent Arch Enemy
Listen “Spawn Tyrant” (here)
Few blackened tech-death bands ever achieve that “well-oiled machine gun” sound. (It’s not attached to the music itself, but it’s just the feel). Violator is lubed and loaded and cocked and aimed and about .02 seconds away from total full-auto fire when BAM! It jumps the gun by .02 seconds (barely perceptible) and all of a sudden you fucking cannot stop headbanging. If you’re short on time and wanna go off just one song: “Spawn Tyrant” can be the metal you want.
·
Cliteater
From Enslavement To Clitoration (War Anthem)
On a playlist with: Black Tongue, Dysphoria, a dumb Echoes Of Misanthropy
Listen “CalipHate” (here)
From Enslavement To Clitoration is a super extreme and vacuously absurd album. Up front it doesn’t coalesce. And there’s kind of a cheap deathcore thing going on too, which is oftentimes no bueno. Credit where it’s due, though, this is some seriously heavy shit. If you just need more and more and more, here’s the next step on your ladder toward more-ness. You have to go “Super Satan” to be in this crowd.
·
The Body
No One Deserves Happiness (Thrill Jockey)
On a playlist with: Plebian Grandstand, Black Sheep Wall, pretension
Listen “Hallow / Hollow” (here) “Shelter Is Illusory” (here)
There’s good-hard and then there’s try-hard. Most prefer good hard (e.g. hard rock, hard liquor, hard erection, etc.) and deeeee-spise those who just try hard. Ugh, and it’s actually hard to say: is No One Deserves Happiness actually distinctive? Or, is it just anti-fashion… or maybe some kind of fecal proto-music. Beyond that, is any distinction “trying” to be made? Or is distinction as a concept just utter garbage, and all commentary is essentially bullshit? The Body = The Questions!
·
Tusmörke
Fort Bak Lyset (Svart)
On a playlist with: Beastie Boys, Queen, Devin Townsend
Listen “Ekebergkongen” (here)
Immediately you’re going to be like, “what in the fucking hell is this flute-filled horseshit?” Withhold those snap judgments… actually, you gotta withhold for like 4-5 minutes (can you manage, man?) — the payoff, trust me on this, is there. Norwegian folk prog, sounds esoteric, and so it is. I mean, after you get brain bubbles and general bad vibes from Cliteater (I hate even writing it), what are you truly searching for in your music?
