Best Invention Ever of the Day: Headphones That Will Get You High
If you’re anything like the MetalSucks crew, you love getting high while listening to music more than you love your own mother. But what’s a passionate metal fan to do when they either don’t have access to drugs for whatever reason or are simply someplace public where they can’t use their drugs?
It would appear that a company called Nervana has solved this age-old problem with what sounds like more or less the greatest invention ever: headphones that get you high. Reports Science Alert:
“The headphones will pump music into your ears as normal, but at the same time, an integrated device will deliver a low-power electrical signal through your ear canal to stimulate the Vagus nerve – a nerve that runs from the brainstem to the abdomen and plays a role in the release of dopamine, a neurotransmitter that helps control the brain’s reward and pleasure centres.”
Nervana claims that their technology can either sync up its signals to the beats of your music, or to the sounds of your environment, depending on your needs.
There are two potential drawbacks to Nervana’s tech, though (assuming it actually works the way it’s supposed to): for one thing, it’s gonna cost you about three-hundred bucks, and for another, it requires the use of a generator roughly the size of your smart phone, which you’ll need to carry with you if you wanna use it while you’re out and about. Honestly, if it works, I don’t see either of those issues being a deal breaker, but I dunno, maybe you highly value your pocket space and have that $300 ear-marked for the strip club or something.
Nervana plans to launch their product sometime this month. You can get more details from their website.
