Unsigned and Unholy: Black Wail
Today’s soundtrack from your 4:20 comes courtesy of gnarly New Jersey quintet Black Wail. An absolute Ozzsend for anyone bummed about Black Sabbath’s impending retirement or Deep Purple’s refusal to reunite for their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, Black Wail specialize in fuzzed-out, psychedelic licks that will immediately stake a claim in your brain. And they’ve got range, too, running the sonic gamut from achingly melancholy to High on Fire heavy — sometimes in a single song (that would be “Tree of Life”). I saw these cats live last year and was blown away, and their new EP, All You Can Eat*, only bolsters my initial impression of them — that they’re awesome.
Listen to All You Can Eat below! You can buy it on Bandcamp or iTunes. You can also stream it on Spotify. Also, if you live in the NJ area: Black Wail are playing a free show tonight in Asbury Park! Get details here. They’re also playing an EP release show Friday in Jersey City! Details of that show are here.
*How on Earth did Cannibal Corpse not think of this joke first???
