Wowee wow wow wow… this is really something. Although we already knew that djent works almost as well without electricity as it does with electricity, Mike Dawes’ new acoustic cover of Periphery’s “Scarlet” really kicks things up a notch. Arriving with an endorsement from the members of Periphery themselves, Dawes’ cover is overwhelmingly impressive not simply because of it’s beauty — but also because it’s just completely solo, meaning there’s no instrumentation besides Dawes’ guitar. The results sound so elegant even your mom would love the track. Check it out:

Guitar World says that the song will soon be available as a “pay what you like” download via Dawes’ Bandcamp page. You should check that out anyway; Dawes’ is clearly a very talented dude, and one of his tracks, “The Impossible 2.0,” features a guest appearance by Periphery’s Adam “Nolly” Getgood.

In the meantime, here’s the original “Scarlet.” I’m assuming you’re familiar with it, but the video and the song are both so rad… any excuse to listen/watch, y’know?
