Eagles of Death Metal Will “Finish” Their Paris Show Tonight, Frontman Decries Gun Control

0

As though you could ever forget, in November a terrorist attack on an Eagles of Death Metal show at Paris’ Le Bataclan left about a hundred attendees dead, shaking the music world at large and renewing discussions on foreign policy, dealing with terrorism and gun control.

Though Le Bataclan has not yet reopened, Blabbermouth reports that Eagles of Death Metal will be playing Paris tonight at L’Olympia Bruno Coquatrix and officially “finishing” the show they started that terrible night. Not only is the show sold out, but many of the survivors of the attack will be in attendance.

Frontman Jesse Hughes made the following statement:

“I feel we were chosen by circumstances for better or for worse. I take it as a responsibility I’m charged by God to fulfill.”

Fucking heartbreaking.

Meanwhile, while many people might think Hughes would have adopted a staunch anti-gun stance after being involved in such a tragedy, such is not the case. In an interview with French station ITELE, Hughes came out decrying anyone who would use the Bataclan attack as anti-gun propaganda. Video of the interview is available below, but seeing as it’s dubbed in French and sometimes hard to understand, here are some choice statements:

“Did your French gun control stop a single fucking person from dying at the Bataclan? And if anyone can answer yes, I’d like to hear it, because I don’t think so. I think the only thing that stopped it was some of the bravest men that I’ve ever seen in my life charging headfirst into the face of death with their firearms.

“I hate it that it’s that way. I think the only way that my mind has been changed is that maybe that until nobody has guns, everybody has to have them. Because I don’t want to ever see something like this happen again.”

Again, the full interview is available below.

I don’t agree with Hughes’ opinions on guns, but I’ll eat my fucking hoodie before casting shade on him for them. Given what this dude’s been through, it’s safe to say he’s got some passionate feelings about guns, terrorism, and death. I wasn’t there, so while my disagreements may be valid in a broader sense, they don’t hold a candle to what this guy has experienced, and is probably experiencing right now.

We wish Eagles of Death Metal and the survivors of the Bataclan attack a fun night full of great music, delicious drinks, and heartfelt memories. May the show go on without a hitch.
