Lita Ford Claims Tony Iommi Was An Abusive Cokehead in Her New Memoir
In Tony Iommi’s book Iron Man, the Black Sabbath guitarist claims his marriage with Lita Ford ended partially because Ford felt he’d stolen Eric Singer from her band and partially because he was doing a lot of cocaine. Iommi is honest that his drug use fucked the relationship, but seems to think the nicking of Singer had a huge impact on it.
But according to Ford’s new memoir, Lita Ford – Living Like A Runaway: A Memoir, Iommi’s cocaine use and his behavior on the drug were the primary reasons behind their relationship dissolving. Ford claims that Iommi was actually an angry, violent drug user whose temper would often go unchecked.
According to Ford’s memoir, things went sour when their sex life dissolved:
“He was impotent from his constant drug use, and he was very embarrassed. I felt bad for him and didn’t really know what to do. Eventually, I got him off.
Ford goes on to claim that on a flight to England to meet his mother, Iommi “”out of nowhere… hauled off and punched me in the eye.” After that, things got scarier:
“After snorting tons of blow, he got angry and choked me unconscious. When I woke up, I saw him holding a chair above my head. It was a big, heavy leather chair with studs around the arms, and he was about to smash it over my face. I rolled over, and luckily I moved fast enough that he missed me and the chair smashed into the ground.”
Obviously, these allegations are pretty scary. Iommi has certainly been open in the past that his insane coke use during the ’80s was unhealthy and out of control, but choking your fiancé unconscious before threatening to smash a chair on her goes beyond that.
Then again, Lita Ford hasn’t been known for her credibility of late. Ford’s own son, James Gillette, accused his mother of being abusive and insane last summer, and a police report claimed that Ford’s children were afraid their mother would kill them. Meanwhile, Lita has launched Lita Ford’s Parental-Alienation Awareness, a group that want to give parents access to their children who they claim have been brainwashed by their other parent. So while it’s totally believable that a man in the throes of an intense coke habit would behave like this, it’s also reasonable to question every thing Lita Ford has to say.
None the less, these claims are obviously very damning. We’ll keep you posted on whether or not Iommi responds to them.
