Video: Drumming on an Invisible Drum Kit in Virtual Reality with the Oculus Rift
Air-drumming: we all do it. In the car against the steering wheel, in the subway on your lap, or even just with subtle finger taps wherever you may be. But most of us do it badly. Raise your hand if you silently judge friends who attempt to air-drum but have no concept of how drums are played, or where the individual parts of the kit are located. <raises hand>
Now, thanks to Aerodrums, your non-musically inclined friends can be called out on their whack technique… or perhaps even learn to play drums the right way. The virtual drum kit, which debuted at The 2016 NAMM Show, combines with the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset to allow its users to play drums virtually, all by waving their hands in the air at an invisible drum kit. How fucking rad is that?
Watch this video below, filmed at The NAMM Show a couple weeks back. I can’t get over how cool this is, even if it’d be incredibly odd to happen upon an unsuspecting friend with a headset on gesticulating wildly into the air.
