Listen: Voivod Don’t Need “Society”

You may know Voivod’s newish jam “We Are Connected” from their split with At The Gates. And then a second new one “Forever Mountain” may have entered your consciousness in November via that split with Napalm Death, Voivod’s recent tourmates. Now those two songs join another pair of new ones on Post Society, a nifty EP that arrives during another killer Voivod tour, this time with Vektor and Eight Bells (starts Saturday). Exciting!

Also exciting is that Post Society is the complete discography of Voivod’s new era with bassist Dominic “Rocky” Laroche — until a new album arrives in summer anyway. Also also exciting is that the EP’s fifth track may be the next in the series of classic Voivod covers, which already includes their versions of two Pink Floyd gems and of King Crimson’s defining jam, each of which snatch “best version” honors from their authors. This time, it’s Hawkwind’s “Silver Machine,” so we’ll see if Voivod can again top the original. For now, Post Society‘s title track has just arrived for our crankage! Crank it up!!
