ESPN’s John Clayton vs. NBA Star Russell Westbrook: Who Wore The Slayer Shirt Better?
A few years ago, ESPN ran a commercial that revealed commentator John Clayton to be a massive Slayer fan who still lives with his mom. Anyone who’s ever heard Clayton’s commentary wasn’t terribly surprised, of course. Then, earlier this month, Oklahoma City point guard Russell Westbrook showed up to a game rocking a Slayer shirt. So of course, the question arose: which sports personality rocked their Slayer shirt better?
Being the bastion of sports journalism that it is, SportsCenter took on this tough issue. As you’ll see in the video below, Clayton graciously gives the honor to Westbrook, citing his goth-ish thumb-sleeves, which Clayton describes as “a Spider-Man look” (he obviously didn’t know enough Coal Chamber fans as a teen). What’s funnier, though, is that anchor Lindsay Czarniak keeps making references to the Eagles throughout the interview. Was she misinformed that this was a segment on the late Glenn Frey? Or did whoever set up her teleprompter know so little about music as to equate Slayer with the Eagles?
Anyway, here’s the segment. We’ll let you know if Peyton Manning comes to practice in a pair of Devourment shorts.
