Listen to the New Ihsahn Song “Mass Darkness;” New Album Arktis Coming in March
Yeesh, who releases a new track on the Friday before holiday break? Everyone is already checked out for the holidays and this’ll be received by the general public like a lost fart in a wind storm.
In any case, I fucking love Ihsahn, and Arktis — Ihsahn’s fifth album — instantly jumped to the top of at least one person’s “most anticipated albums of 2016” list. It’ll come out on March 4th, and the new singe “Mass Darkness” just hit the web. On first listen it reminds me most of Ihsahn’s early solo work on angL and After, and less of his past two affairs, Eremita and Das Seelenbrechen; it’s more straight-forward from both a songwriting and instrumentation standpoint. To that end, Ihsahn offers the following on the new album as a whole:
My focus for this album was to write within more traditional song structures and still give each song a strong individual identity, be that through a re-occurring melody, a chorus, sound design or the good, old guitar riff. I also wanted to explore this on the production side, blending organic rock sounds with more modern expressions.
Sweet. Really looking forward to hearing the rest! Arktis comes out on March 4th.
