Abbath Rides Judas Priest’s Wind
One of today’s many fine new releases is an Abbath 7″ entitled Count the Dead, which features both the title track (released yesterday) and a cover of “Riding on the Wind,” from Judas Priest’s 1982 classic, Screaming for Vengeance.
And, uhh… well, I appreciate the effort, but this is Abbath’s first creative misstep since splitting with Immortal. Abbath’s black metal vocal style just makes the track sound like a joke YouTube cover. Maybe if he had made more adjustments to the music, it wouldn’t so silly, but he didn’t, so it does.
Listen for yourself:
See? Goofy, right?
And honestly, if Abbath was gonna go big n’ goofy with a cover of an 80s song features the words “ride” and “wind,” I would have preferred he’d done this one, ’cause at least it was always dumb:
Abbath’s self-titled solo debut comes out January 22 on Season of Mist. Pre-order it here. Abbath will also headline the 2016 edition of the DecibelMagazine Tour; support will come from High on Fire, Skeletonwitch, and Tribulation. Get dates here.
