Rush Drummer Neil Peart Retires
Bummer alert! According to a new interview with Drumhead, Neil Peart, the legendary drummer for Rush, is putting away his sticks for good. Says Peart:
“Lately Olivia [ Neil’s daughter] has been introducing me to new friends at school as ‘My dad – he’s a retired drummer.’ True to say, funny to hear.
“And it does not pain me to realize that, like all athletes, there comes a time to… take yourself out of the game. I would rather set it aside then face the predicament described in our song ‘Losing It‘ [‘Sadder still to watch it die, than never to have known it’].”
The sixty-three-year-old Peart has been suffering from tendonitis, which almost certainly contributed to his decision to join the Lipitor crowd.
I’ve never really been much of a Rush fan (Geddy Lee’s vocals irritate me to no end), but I’d never deny that these dudes can play their instruments like nobody’s business. Peart’s legacy will surely live on forever, or at least until the sun dies and takes humanity with it.
