Korn’s Jonathan Davis is as Surprised as You are That President Obama Knows Who He Is
Last week, President Barack Obama joked that “I am not the lead singer from Korn” while awarding a medal to Army veteran Florent Groberg, and the whole world reacted like so:
According to Rolling Stone, Jonathan Davis, the actual lead singer of Korn, was caught just as off-guard as the rest of us (which makes sense… I don’t think someone from the White House calls celebrities to give them a heads up every time Obama is about to reference them):
“I was asleep and then around six or seven in the morning, my phone starts going off. I look over and someone had just texted me ‘The president just said your name during this Medal of Honor ceremony.’ I’m just like ‘whatever’ and went back to sleep, but [my phone] kept going.”
Wow. That story was electrifying. I wonder if the movie rights are still available?
ANYWAY, Davis goes on to describe his reaction to the shout-out…
“I couldn’t believe it. It’s really cool. The President of the United States gave me props for being there for a Medal of Honor recipient. Groberg went through hell.”
…which seems a little odd, given that he called the President “an Illuminati puppet” in both 2011 and 2014. But Davis’ disregard for those statements comes with a fairly menschy explanation:
“We all have our views on the president. I’m not going to take [this moment] and make it about that. This is about Captain Groberg.”
Which sounds good, but isn’t really true. Groberg’s achievements have been mentioned in all of these articles only in order to give the “I am not the lead singer from Korn” crack context, and two paragraphs later, Davis is talking about the next Korn album. So he’s really just dodging the issue here. But given that the issue here is basically “Just how dumb is Jonathan Davis, anyway?”, I suppose it doesn’t really merit much discussion anyway. All of us who have had to listen to his shitty music for twenty years already know the answer.
