Kurt Ballou Wants to Teach You How to Fix Your Crappy Mixes
You all already know that CreativeLive is THE destination for top-tier livestreaming workshops on audio production, right? So we don’t need to reiterate just how great the classes they’ve done with Eyal Levi, members of Periphery, Dethklok’s Brendon Small and others have been? OK, sweet.
CreativeLive’s next class will feature Converge guitarist and Godcity Studios founder Kurt Ballou — who’s hosted such workshops for CL before — and will be titled “Fix it in the Mix.” As the name implies, the workshop will focus on “organic approaches to recovering and enhancing the natural tones from original performances without replacing drums with samples and re-amping guitars. Ballou will demonstrate how to think outside of the box to come up with creative solutions to audio restoration problems every engineer has faced.” Says Ballou:
Obviously sample replacement of drums and re-amping of guitars can be effective ways to revive sub-par recordings, but they can also homogenize the uniqueness of the original tracks. In this class, I’ll explore organic approaches to turn your tracks from trashy to classy.
Because, as engineers, we’ve all been there, right? Handed someone else’s files only to find out they weren’t recorded well. Or perhaps your own recording techniques were limited by time and/or budget.
“Fix it in the Mix” will take place November 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. PST / 12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. EST. The class is completely free to stream live, and costs only $49 if you wanna own it forever. Enroll here.
