Some years, it feels like the metal world isn’t ready for Halloween. Everyone’s so caught up in being a rock star or a deadly-serious kvlt sewer dweller that they forget the best holiday of the year. In fact, often the more evil-minded metal community seem to ignore the day, as though celebrating darkness as fun on a day when everyone gets to be scary makes their life of right-hand-path witchcraft seem bogus. What is it Suicide says in Return of the Living Dead? “You think this is a fuckin’ costume? This is a way o’ life!”

But man, this year, metal seems out for Halloween! Bands are releasing Halloween– and horror-themed videos, Kirk Hammett’s releasing a spooky pedal, and Rob Zombie’s got his own candy. There’s even a heavy metal pumpkin-carving book and Halloween metal clickbait parodies. For some reason, 2015 is a year where the headbanging community has come out full-force to bask in my favorite holiday.
