Exclusive Track Premiere: Haunted Shores, “Norway Jose”
It’s come to our attention that certain n00bz are dismissing Haunted Shores as merely another Periphery side-project. But that couldn’t be further from the truth! Case in point: we’ve been posting about Haunted Shores on MetalSucks since 2009, before Periphery’s self-titled debut even came out, and a good two years before HS mastermind Mark Holcomb joined up with Periphery. This is Holcomb’s baby, and he’s been at it for quite a while.
More importantly, Haunted Shores sound COMPLETELY different from Periphery, even in spite of the fact that the band’s other collaborator is Misha Mansoor himself. Haunted Shores offer a mish-mash of styles — death metal, black metal and yes, progressive metal among them — but the result sounds nothing like the sum of its parts. The riffs are meaty as fuck and the production is massive, unsurprising seeing as Mansoor engineered and mixed it. You might find that some of the lead guitar work is vaguely reminiscent of Periphery, but that’s really about as far as the similarities go.
The Viscera EP comes out on November 3 and can be pre-ordered via Bandcamp. Check out a teaser with samples of some of the EP’s other songs here.
