Skindred Pump Up the “Volume” for Stangry MetalSucks Commenters
Skindred are just too much fun! I’ve yet to see them live because they so rarely come Stateside, but I’m sure their shows are a totally blast, Benji Webbe amping up the crowd, people going crazy.
Watching their new video for “Volume” makes me think about how right things could’ve gone for nu-metal but how wrong they ended up. Nothing on this track is that different structurally from the stuff we relentlessly crap on — big groove, simple riffs, catchy hook, pop song format — and that’s why MS commenters are always surprised we back this band. But it’s just so much more well-executed than anything Korn, et al, ever did. Webbe’s delightful reggae delivery is a huge part of that, of course; it just makes me feel happy inside!
Skindred’s sixth album, Volume, comes out on October 30th via Napalm Records; check out another track called “Under Attack” and pre-order the album here. Get dates for Skindred’s upcoming UK Tour below.
