Avenged Sevenfold Have A New Drummer In Place

So far, Avenged Sevenfold have had a rough time with drummers. Their founding skinsman The Rev passed away in ’09 (RIP), his brief replacement Mike Portnoy went on to describe the band as not metal, and their drummer for the past four years, Arin Ilejay, recently left for undisclosed reasons.

Since Ilejay’s departure, the band has apparently been overwhelmed by fan videos, including one from US soldier Chris Hawkins, who petitioned the band to make him their new drummer. But last night, the band asked fans to please stop sending in videos — as they’ve had a new drummer in place for a little while now.

Here’s the statement issued:

“It has been brought to our attention that a lot of videos have been posted online from some pretty amazing drummers who want to try out for Avenged Sevenfold. While we appreciate the overwhelming interest and support we thought it would be the right thing to do to let everyone know that we already have someone. In fact, we have been working with this person for over a year now to make sure that it was a correct fit before making any sudden changes. When we have more to share we will be sure to do that. As for Mr. Chris Hawkins, you rule brother. We look forward to hearing about any future musical endeavors you may have. We appreciate the video and your service to our country. We will reach out and would love to meet with you when our paths cross next.

Eeeeenteresting.

It’s very cool of the band to make this polite of an announcement, and to give Hawkins a shout-out; it’s really hard to put yourself out there and ask your favorite band if you can jam with them. That said, what a tease! Who is this mystery person? Who will we see destroying stages with Avenged Sevenfold across this fine nation? Inquiring minds want to know, dudes!
