Slayer’s New Jeff Hanneman Tribute Shirt Is Much Better Than The Previous One
Right after guitarist Jeff Hanneman passed away two years ago, Slayer released the following tribute shirt to the guitarist:
Which I fucking hate, primarily because Jeff’s placement over Slayer’s steel eagle logo makes him out to have angel wings, and I believe it does dead metal stars a disservice when they are portrayed as angels. That Jeff’s face is obscured and he’s in his shin guard stage gear equally bothers me.
But Slayer have released a new Jeff Hanneman tribute shirt, which looks like this:
…and I gotta say, I don’t really mind it at all. It’s not the best shirt ever, but it’s certainly a step up. The portrayal of Jeff writing, his face visible, with the single missing sword from the Slayergram overhead, is a nice touch. The fact that they didn’t feel the need to include ‘Reigning’ in it is also a nice touch. And if all that weren’t enough, all proceeds go to the Wounded Warrior Project and the Gary Sinise Foundation, so it’s a shirt for a good cause.
Kudos to Slayer for releasing a decent piece of tribute merch. Feel free to get one here, along with your Slayer socks, Slayer dental floss, Slayer insurance forms…
