Kill For Metal! Usurper to Reunite For Chicago’s Holiday Of Horror Festival
Chicago death metal heavyweights haven’t been around since they released the punishing Cryptobeast a decade ago, which is a shame because they were always a worthwhile band and that album fucking slays.
But now it appears fans will get their chance to see Usurper live! The band has just announced that they will be reuniting to play Macabre’s Holiday Of Horror festival in celebration of the 20th anniversary of their debut album Diabolosis.
Not only that, it appears that the band is considering reuniting for good, or at least for a while. According to guitarist Rick Scythe:
“After this show, we will assess things and see what the interest level is in Usurper.
We currently have some offers to play other shows and fests, and I have many unreleased Usurper songs ready to work on with the band, but only time will tell what we decide to do.
We will entertain any serious offers for shows or recording, but at the same time we are not under some deadline or under the control of some big label. We will do things if and when we feel like.
Usurper always had a small-yet-strong, loyal, extremely passionate fan base around the globe that have been dedicated to Usurper even long after we disbanded. It is these fans, the Usurper “Warriors Of Iron And Rust” that we feel obligated to, no one else.”
Cool! Sounds like the band is doing it for all the reasons we want them to. Let’s hope they get snapped up by a solid label and put out a killer new album.
The Holiday of Horror will be the day after Christmas in Chicago. To get you in the mood, here’s Usurper’s “Metal Lust.”
