Battles’ New Clip for “The Yabba” is the Coolest Music Video You’ll See Today
In what ways can an instrumental band make an engaging music video? Watching guys play their instruments for five minutes straight can be fun sometimes, but other times you just want something more.
You can do what Scale the Summit recently did and give your performance a goofy tilt. You could go the Animals as Leaders route and have the band members star in a scripted storyline. Or you could go all abstract like Battles have done in their new clip, and produce a gorgeously shot, artistic video that focuses around one central theme: in this case, circular motion.
Roger Guardia directed the clip. New album La Di Da Di, Battles’ third, is out now; stream it in full at NPR and order it here. Catch them on tour this fall; dates here.
FWIW: MetalSucks readers should know drummer John Stanier from his days in Helmet. Hot damn, he is so much fun to watch here!
