Republican Presidential Hopeful Rick Santorum Embraces Dave Mustaine

Presidential hopeful Rick Santorum thinks consensual gay sex should be illegal and that women are bad at combat because of their many emotions. Megadeth frontman and known insensitive dickhead Dave Mustaine thinks Santorum should be president because Rick left his campaign to be with his sick daughter, a sensitive move that Dave would no doubt lambast Barack Obama for doing.

But does Santorum respect the guitar god and birther conspiracy nut enough to accept his praise? Ssssorta’.

Intrepid reporter Cinco Sanders, who asked Rick Perry about his favorite Metallica album, decided to pay Santorum a visit during his visit to a shooting range in Greenville, SC, and ask the possible future ruler of the free world if he accepts Mustaine’s endorsement. And while Santorum says yes, he prefaces it by basically tossing Mustaine into the hypothetical loony bin:

“One of the things I learned a long time ago is that anybody that wants to support my campaign is free to do so. I used to say this a long time ago… When I started getting involved in politics, I would ask people why they were voting for me, and after doing that a few times, I stopped, because I realized you really don’t wanna know. Sometimes people have the most interesting reasons why they support you.”

Great use of the word interesting here. Could mean, “Somtimes they don’t know about your politics, but like that you went home to care for your sick daughter.” Sounds a lot more like, “Sometimes you have to smile politely while people express hardcore racialist beliefs and rant about stringing up abortionists along the National Mall.”

We can only hope that Santorum brings Mustaine on as his VP nominee. We love a good freakshow now and then.
