“Shaping The Southern Sky” Is No Problem For Kylesa
A lot of people were irked when I seemingly slighted Savannah stoner metallers Kylesa while announcing their upcoming tour. It’s not that I don’t like the band, I just find them very hit-or-miss. For instance, the last new track they released, “Lost and Confused,” just didn’t quite do it for me.
But this new track I just heard on Brooklyn Vegan, “Shaping the Southern Sky,” is definitely in the ‘Hit’ column. There’s a kickass gallop at its core, and the riffs herein are killer. The psychedelic breakdown in the middle also doesn’t sound like it’s trying too hard to be spacey, and the guitar solo that closes the song rips like a motherfucker. So credit where credit’s due: good on Kylesa for this one. I’m a fan.
Check out the song below, and see the band on tour in October. The new record, Exhausting Fire, is out October 2nd via Season of Mist.
