Converge + Cave In + The Red Chord Supergroup = Wear Your Wounds
I consider myself to be a Cave In fanboy, so when Metal Injection posted yesterday about a project featuring guitarist Adam McGrath that I didn’t already know about — and has been around since at least 2012! — I felt a tad bit embarrassed. My fanboyage is slipping, and I’m not happy about it.
But that’s not all: the band, Wear Your Wounds, also features Converge’s Jacob Bannon, Mike “Gunface” McKenzie of The Red Chord, Ryan Parker of Supermachiner and Alex Garcia Rivera of American Nightmare. That’s a helluva lineup, and the umpteenth to pair one member of Cave In with one member of Converge (Old Man Gloom, Doomriders, Mutoid Man… am I missing any?).
But this is where my guilt is assuaged: it seems as if Wear Your Wounds is more or less a Bannon solo project with his friends helping out in the studio. All posts on the band’s Facebook page use the word “I,” including one from earlier this week announcing that the band is soon headed to the studio:
Don’t go into this expecting anything remotely resembling Converge, Cave In or The Red Chord (or American Nightmare… although I’m honestly not sure what that band sounds like). For one thing, it’s Bannon’s baby, and he’s got many sides. But we’ve also already got Cave In, Converge and The Red Chord, and we don’t need other versions of each; instead it’s cool to hear these guys branch out into different sonic territory. Wear Your Wounds have released three songs to date, the most recent of which came out in 2013; they’re atmospheric, chilled out and pensive, not aggressive at all. Check them out below and see what you think.
