There’s a Documentary Coming Out About Mastodon Guitarist Bill Kelliher
Brent Hinds gets the lion’s share of attention in Mastodon, both for his guitar prowess and outrageous off-stage antics. But co-guitarist Bill Kelliher is an equally talented player and fascinating character: not only has he had his share of off-stage drama, but it turns out he penned a good chunk of the songs on Mastodon’s most recent album. He’s as integral a part of the band as any of the other three members.
Perhaps that’s why Fret12 has decided to film and release a documentary about Kelliher, partially to focus on a lesser known member of the band and partially to say about him, “Hey, he’s really fucking interesting, too.” And watching the trailer, I’m inclined to agree: this film looks fascinating. In addition to the documentary segment, the DVD also features 4+ of guitar tutorials and technique lessons, live concert footage, a rig rundown of Bill’s gear and more, all in all 274 minute of footage. It’s a must-have for any Mastodon superfan or metal guitar player looking to improve their technique.
