Exclusive Track Premiere: Animals as Leader, “Kalimba”

On April 22nd, 2009, MetalSucks premiered “Tempting Time,” the opening track from Animals as Leaders, the forthcoming release by a then-unknown band of the same name that would go on to turn the metal world on its head in the coming years.

More than six years later, we’re beyond honored to be premiering “Kalimba,” a previously unreleased B-side from that record’s sessions. Like finding a new room in a house you know all too well, “Kalimba” is exactly what you’d hope it is: a song that’s got all the hallmarks of any of the other tracks on that ground-breaking debut, yet isn’t any of those songs. An unexpected treat that tastes SO good precisely because it’s simultaneously familiar and different.

“Kalimba” is one of three bonus tracks that’s included in the “encore edition” of Animals as Leaders, which came out this past Friday. The reissue also includes “Wave of Babies,” which has been available digitally but never before on CD, and a 2001 demo called “Orea.” The re-release also includes enhanced artwork featuring 3D imagery and custom AAL 3-D glasses.
