Unsigned and Unholy: Deadspawn, Amiensus, Inquisitor
Deadspawn scratch my itch for blackened death/sludge… or something. Sub-genres are stupid, but it’s definitely blackened something or other. If you’re a fan of Tombs and Black Anvil you’ll probably dig it. Here’s their latest album The Source of Chaos:
Unsigned and Unholy alumni Amiensus return with their new album Ascension, which finds them expanding their sonic palette a bit from their work on Restoration. That’s a good thing; not that Restoration wasn’t a solid slab of atmospheric black metal, but we always like it when bands venture outside of their comfort zone.
I guess today’s theme is “blackened stuff,” eh? Lithuanian band Inquisitor describe themselves as “avant-garde black metal,” and sure, why not? It’s not SUPER out-there, but it’s definitely got some proggy and jazzy elements to it that I like a lot. Sort of like Ephel Duath or something, but a little less weird.
