There is independence aplenty to celebrate as of late, and more freedom in the air than ever. Smells good to me.

The SCOTUS’ recent ruling in favor of nationwide marriage equality has given everyone the legal right to put their independence in the pants of anyone else, and it’s about fucking time.

On this day of burgers and dogs, beer and explosions in the sky, let’s enjoy working the fire within and eating up all the light we can…

My personal Indepants Day soundtrack will most definitely include an instrumetal/post-rock gem from Brooklyn’s own Lighteater, who released a killer EP called Antique back in April that is thoroughly captivating and strikes the delicate balance between earthy and heady.

The Lighteater boys will be heading out for a short East Coast tour this week (dates here, so if they’re coming to your town don’t miss out!

Antique falls in a similar category as the excellent December release The Wind Takes A Side by Ashes & Iron (who I have also written about in this space) — the post-heavy instrumetal renaissance is upon us!

Combine those two newbies with [LSD-friendly] selections from Fact Magazine’s recent list of the “Top 40 Post-Metal Albums of All Time” and you are almost guaranteed to set off some fireworks down below.
