Today in Non-Metal Celebs Doing Metal Things: Madonna Plays Led Zeppelin on Guitar, Lady Gaga Sings Van Halen’s “Panama”

All hail metal’s continued infiltration of the mainstream! Two of pop music’s most provocative blondes both recently made forays, however brief, into the music we enjoy more than theirs.

First up, former Prong guitarist Monte Pittman continues to be a good influence on The Crypt Keeper Madonna: after incorporating part of Pantera’s “A New Level” into her set back in 2008, it would appear that Mr. Pittman is now teaching her play some material by The King of Kings, Led Zeppelin.

And in case that wasn’t enough: Blabbermouth reports that Madonna Jr. Lady Gaga “joined the New York-based band The Dirty Pearls on stage this past Saturday, June 20 at the Gramercy Theatre in New York City” to perform Van Halen’s classic, “Panama.” This is less surprising than the Madonna thing because Ms. Gaga has long demonstrated a love of metal, but still… if she helps turn one teenage girl onto 1984, then all the meat dresses and weirdly-unsexy-nudity will have been worth it.
