Saturday To Celebrate
Give yourself a bloody, dismembered hand.
I know, I know — this real life shit ain’t always so easy. But with the right blend of gumption, persistence, and faith things will be on the up-and-up, nawmean? And the crisp stank of what already feels like quite a heated Summer should serve as a frank reminder that you pretty much have yourself to thank/blame for all that good/bad fortune.
So despite any moments of apparent icy bleak darkness, we should probably focus on the positive and celebrate what we do have. A little gratitude goes a long way.
And clearly there are plenty of positive vibes to absorb from sunnier genres than our beloved devil’s music as well. I for one was completely inspired by last night’s Celebrate Brooklyn concert featuring the amazing Esperanza Spalding, a supremely gifted (and funky) bassist/singer/songwriter/total babe whose unique sense of groove within atypical rhythmic structures could certainly open the minds of the proggiest among us.
Unfortunately the next-level material that Spalding is showcasing on her current “Emily’s D+Evolution 2015 Tour” hasn’t been released yet, but if it is within the next six or so months it just might rival my favorite (non-metal) album of the year so far.
For now you can enjoy her ripping 2013 performance at Austin City Limits and a few other celebratory videos below.
Or you can get wasted and listen to Gojira. Choose your own celebration, biatch.
