Texas Venue’s Security Allegedly Pepper Sprays Mastodon Fan Mid-Concert
Ever wonder would a metal show would be like if the Gestapo were running security?
The San Antonio Current reports that a Mastodon show at local venue 210 Kapone’s this past Tuesday night was less-than-pleasant for fans — because the security crew (which The Current claims isrun by off-duty cops, although the venue denies it), was “over-zealous.”
“Attendees allege people who attempted to mosh were forcefully thrown out by security. People present claim no signage was posted in the venue indicating the site’s no-moshing policy and that a significant portion of the crowd was not told venue rules upon entry because the show already started.”
“That had already started,” by the way, because the doors opened late and the venue couldn’t get everyone in before the first band went on.
So that already shows really shitty. And yet, it’s not even the shittiest part! That would be this:
“Things reportedly escalated when an off-duty SAPD officer allegedly pepper-sprayed a person in the middle of the packed crowd. Numerous reports state a number of nearby people were affected by the inflammatory irritant, however details vary wildly. The identity of the police officer and the pepper-sprayed concertgoer are not known at this time. “
In the venue’s defense, the reason for the jacked-up security is because the club’s owner was murdered outside the venue in March.
Not in the venue’s defense, they’ve posted conflicting messages on Facebook, the sum total of which indicate that they’re totally full of crap.
The first one went up Wednesday evening…
…and while it’s a nice enough apology and expression of concern, this message, posted earlier today, basically renders it null:
Huh? No one was pepper sprayed but you’re sorry if someone was pepper sprayed and you’re looking into it? You make a good case when you point out that pepper spray released in such a small area would probably have taken a toll on a lotta of people… but why issue a denial when you still don’t know what’s going on?
If anyone was at the show, please hit us up and let us know what you saw. And, duh, if anyone can prove a fan got pepper sprayed, by all means, do.
