Friday 5: What Five Jams Must We Crank This Very Second?
Happy Friday, MetalSucks reader! Welcome to MetalSucks Friday 5, our awesome series that appears every Friday (duh) on MetalSucks (duhh) and involves the quantity of five (duhhh).
Here’s how it works: A list of best/worst/weirdest/whatever five somethings is posted by one of your beloved MetalSucks contributors or by one of our buds (like you?). Then you, our cherished reader, checks it out, has a chuckle, then chimes in with a list of the same. No sweat, just whatever springs to mind, k? (Just like that movie about those losers working at a Chicago record store!) After all, it’s Friday — the day dedicated by the gods to mindless, fun time-wasting.
Today, let’s get everybody up to speed!

1. “Upon Our Hordes” | Exhumation
from Opus Death (Dunkelheit)
Hi MetalSucks reader! Why, you sure look attractive today! Thanks for reading :) For today’s Friday 5, let’s imagine we are in my car after work on the way to tacos and smoothies; instantly tired of my shrieking girl-voice, you grab my mobile device and open its music player. You peruse the stats of my most played jams in May, which I then identify as must-jams for any lover of music. I’d explain that at this moment, I’m hopelessly hooked on each of the five. We have 20 minutes to kill, so fuck it, you click play. And we rage to Exhumation.
.
2. “Agonia” | Macerie
from Macerie EP (Sentient Ruin/Yamabushi Laboratories)
I internetted a translation of the Italian word macerie. It means “rubble,” a word that wouldn’t exactly intimidate as a band name English. It’d be cute. Macerie is not.
·
3. “Funeral Wolves” | Satanic Warmaster
from Fimbulwinter (Hells Headbangers)
Satanic Warmaster is one of the many great reasons to (gulp) visit the Midwest for this awesome weekend festival. Further, this jam is one of the many great reasons that Satanic Warmaster is one of those many great reasons. That it’s SW’s first performance in America is another of those great reasons, though at this point I’m confused about all these sequences of cause and effect. See you in Cleveland.
.
4. “Consummation” | Akhlys
from The Dreaming I (Debemur Morti)
At a glance, it’s probably annoying to find that the above jam by Naas Alcameth of Nightbringer is an edited version, but have faith. Your love for its mere 12 minutes will set you up to be stunned later by the full version. And the whole album.
.
5. “A Mindless Servent Of Satan” | Satan’s Wrath
from Die Evil (Metal Blade)
It is our joy here at MetalSucks to share awesome music with you. But it may have dawned on you by now that this F5 is also a trick to get advice on other awesome jams from you, dear MetalSucks reader. So once the final notes of this monster (above) by Satan’s Wrath cease ringing, please share below five songs that we all simply must crank asap. New or old, doesn’t matter. We’re all “in your car in traffic on a Friday evening,” so fill that 20ish-minute commute with your absolute ripping essentials that’d we be fools to keep overlooking! Thanks!
