Cryptopsy Crowdfunding Trilogy of New EPs
Cryptopsy seem to be — at least for now — shifting their focus away from full-lengths and to EPs… which is not a bad strategy, from both a financial and creative point of view (there’s a reason so many grind bands spend most of their time on splits). The French-Canadian death metallers have launched a crowdfunding campaign (which includes a MetalSucks pull quote, hoo-ray!) for a trilogy of less-than-full-lengths:
“Cryptopsy has a lengthy writing process as we strive to top our previous release and challenge ourselves creatively. After three years, many of you are eager to hear new material. We listened: Instead of an album, we will release a series of EPs entitled The Book of Suffering. This approach will allow us to put out new music more often while remaining true to our standards of quality.”
The group, which is now independent and without a label, is looking to raise $20,000 not just for the creation of these EPs, but also to “be able to fully share our creative vision of extreme technical music through enhanced sound, original artwork, videos and live show visuals.” As usual, there are plenty of perks available for fans who contribute, including having members of Cryptopsy make guest appearances on your band’s album, which is pretty rad.
As I’ve said many times before, I’m all for crowdfunding; ostensibly, the band is asking their fans to invest in them, which their fans, in theory, should absolutely not mind doing!
