Secret Metal Mysteries: How Korn Got Their Name

Ever wondered how Korn chose their name? No? Me neither. I just assumed they opened the dictionary to a random page and changed the spelling ’cause they thought it was cool.

But now Joey Siler, the brains behind the “Cooking Hostile” video series, has made a short animated video that delves into the history of one of metal’s most hated bands.

I’ll be honest: Cooking Hostile was a funny idea, but I didn’t think the execution really got it right. This video about Korn is hilarious, though; while the concept seems super-obvious and on the nose (corn cobs playing music! haha!) the execution is actually quite clever. Not only is it appropriately ridiculous, but the vegetable-inspired band name parodies behind the stage are worth the price of admission on their own (screen cap above). And there’s a guest appearance by Deftones’ Chino Moreno, too.
