Six Feet Under’s New Track “Gruesome:” Yay or Nay?
So far we’ve heard two songs from Six Feet Under’s new album Crypt of the Devil. The first, “Open Coffin Orgy,” didn’t do much for us while we liked the second, “Stab,” a whole lot more due to its more traditional DM vibe.
Where does the album’s third single, “Gruesome,” fit into that hierarchy? Somewhere in between, we suppose. If I’m being honest, I’ve really never loved Chris Barnes’ vocals; despite the fact that I don’t really care about metal vocalists most of the time, Barnes’ voice is SO singular and so specific, and I find it completely distracting. Sure, there are some super-solid DM riffs here — via SFU studio collaborator Phil “Landphil” Hall — but it’s hard for me to get past those barks. But then again, those riffs…
