High on Fire are Luminiferous

Light ’em up!!!

Today’s heavy metal vocabulary lesson comes courtesy of High on Fire, who have announced that they’ll release a new album, Luminferous, on June 23 via eOne. If you’re like me, your first reaction to that news was, “SWEET!” And your second reaction to that news was, “What the fuck does ‘luminiferous’ mean?” Turns out, it means exactly what it sounds like it means: “transmitting, producing, or yielding light.” Which is certainly an apt description of High on Fire… and not just because they have the word “fire” in their name.

Here’s guitarist/vocalist/Hanes spokesperson Matt Pike on the record, which was, once again, produced by Converge’s Kurt Ballou:

“We’re doing our part to expose The Elite and the fingers they have in religion, media, governments and financial world downfall and their relationship to all of our extraterrestrial connections in the race to control this world. Wake up, it’s happening. All while we stare at a socially engineered lie we think of as normalcy. Unless we wake from the dream, there will come true doom.”

I honestly find this quote confusing, mostly because I would have assumed that the dude from Sleep would want there to be true doom. Hm.

Presumably, we’ll get to hear new music soon. Jeepers, that’ll be swell!
