Babymetal Sign U.S. Deal with RAL/Sony
According to this press release I just received (in which our own Vince Neilstein is quoted, natch), Babymetal, the band you either love to love or love to hate, “has signed with RAL/Sony Music Entertainment for the U.S. release of their 2014 critically acclaimed self-titled debut album.” Said release will occur digitally on May 12, physically on June 16, and spiritually on June 20 (Yuimetal’s sweet sixteen!). Of course, the new edition of the record will contain a pair of bonus tracks so that it’s a little bit different/special/people buy a new copy.
The news shouldn’t be surprising to anyone who’s been following Babymetal since they blew up last year. As Vince noted, their debut New York City performance was swarming with record label folk, with the rumor being that the band were “working on something with a major label similar to what Unlocking the Truth got.” Funny enough, then, that Babymetal ended up on the exact same label as Unlocking the Truth (although that group is now trying to get out of their deal because Sony execs made them sit through some really long meetings).
ANYWAY, this seems like the next logical step in Babymetal’s conquest of the entire world. I look foreward to someday sprinkling rose pedals in their path as they traverse our filthy planet.
