Varg Vikernes: “Appreciate and Protect Your Race. Mother Nature Made it Like it is For a Reason.”

Varg Vikernes’ YouTube channel — dubbed Thulean Perspective — is a gold mine for all things racist, misogynistic and Papyrus font-related. Since first discovering it last month when Varg published an advice video on how men can attract “good women” I’ve been fascinated, diving head first into the twisted, mysterious world that is Varg’s mind and his home-made videos.

There’s an alarmist video published a couple weeks ago in which Varg questions whether we need microwave ovens in our lives — juxtaposed with images of starving children and gas shortages to highlight the inevitable, microwave-free collapse of civilization — and there’s a doozy in which Varg praises the merits of home schooling (groan) by boasting that he’s taught his children how to change a car’s oil (which clearly no person in the history of ever who has sent their children to traditional schools has done).

But today’s highlight is a video published on March 19th called “We are all Africans,” in which, shocker, Varg recounts “evidence” that allegedly disproves the “Out of Africa” theory of evolution, a long-held anthropological belief that all human life originated in Africa, accompanied by the most racist slide show I’ve ever encountered. Here’s the sequence:

Put aside the fact that Varg displays a categoric misunderstanding of the “Out of Africa” theory and how evolution in general operates: that the changes in human appearance on display in today’s “races” allegedly took place incrementally, starting between 125,000 and 60,000 years ago. What’s more important here is this: who gives a fuck? Would the knowledge that Varg is of African descent create so much cognitive dissonance that it threatens his very identity? (rhetorical question: the answer is clearly yes). What does it matter? Who cares? Not that it should surprise any of us at this point that Varg has some, errr, “interesting” view on race… but jeez.
