And the Producer of the New Metallica Album is…
Metallica have announced the producer of their tenth studio album… and as is pretty much always the case with this band these days, their choice is going to be divisive.
It’s Joey Sturgis, best known for his work with bands such as Asking Alexandria, Attila, and Emmure.
Says Lars Ulrich of the choice:
“Joey is one of the most innovative and forward-thinking young producers out there today, and we’re so thrilled to be working with him. He’s already come to our rehearsal space to hear us jam some of the new material, and we already understand why he’s in such high demand. His insights and his ears are going to be invaluable commodities to Metallica on our new album!”
Sturgis adds:
“Obviously, for any rock-based producer, working with Metallica is a dream come true. I am so honored to be able to make a contribution to their history, however small that contribution may be. I can’t wait to get to work!”
Sturgis and the band will apparently spend the next month on pre-pro before hitting the studio to commence recording in May.
I really have no idea what to say about this choice. At least we know the new Metallica album will sound good? And who knows, maybe Sturgis really is the dude to finally get the band back on track. Once upon a time, the idea of Metallica working with Bon Jovi’s producer seemed pretty outrageous, and we all know how that turned out. Anything is possible!
